WHY WE DO IT
About
The Bone Frog Open was established in 2019 to honor fallen U.S. Navy SEALs. This golf weekend is about awareness, remembrance, patriotism, camaraderie, and fun. The goal is to celebrate legacies and raise money to support military, first responders, and their families as a way of doing our part to thank these men and women for being the ones to run toward danger, not away from it.
bone frog open 2023
With 24 sponsors, 41 teams, and nearly $150,000 raised, the 2023 Bone Frog Open did not disappoint. In celebration of our fifth year, the Bone Frog Open brought together friends, patriots, and special guests to support the mission of the Uncommon Grit Foundation.

What is the meaning behind the bone frog graphic?
The bone frog is one of the most iconic images to honor a fallen U.S. Navy SEAL. Originally drawn by Hospital Corpsman second class SEAL Keith Kimura who passed away January 11, 1997 from a training accident at Naval Special Warfare Basic Underwater Demolition School, the image is now deeply embedded in the SEAL Teams. A time-honored tradition for Navy SEALs is to get a bone frog tattoo on return from a combat deployment to honor a fallen SEAL.
It’s a constant reminder of the ultimate sacrifices made to uphold our nation’s liberty and freedom.

Proceeds benefit the Uncommon Grit Foundation.
Founded in spring of 2020, the mission of the Uncommon Grit Foundation is to raise awareness and increase community support for military veterans, first responders, and their families in recognition and thanks for their service and sacrifice to our country.
The Bone Frog Open is the largest fundraiser for Uncommon Grit Foundation. Past proceeds have allowed us to elevate the work of vetted nonprofits with excellent programs to support military and first responders. They include Malone Family Foundation, C4 Foundation, Heart of a Lion Foundation, New York Hero’s Fund, Pipe Hitter Foundation, Throw Away Dogs Project, Operation Healing Forces, Stronghold Food Pantry, One More Wave, LifeCampUSA, Adotp-A-Cop BJJ, Leashes of Valor, and more. We’ve also been able to assist several families and individuals directly in response to treatment of PTSD, injury, or loss of a loved one.
Your support will allow us to expand our reach to include more organizations, and in turn, to support more individuals who have served for the greater good.
